I've had Viatalk for over a year now, and it's as close to perfect as I can expect from voip. The phone works every time I pick it up, sound quality is great, they keep adding features and my bill is stupid cheap. I don't know what else to ask for. It's been one of the better purchase decisions I've made in the last year.
We had our first child last year and I decided to switch back to DSL with the mandatory basic landline for use as a 911 outlet for additional peace-of-mind whenever we have baby sitters. It makes me smile each time I recieve my ATT bill and see that I'm paying more each month for 20 local calls with zero features than I do for unlimited calls with more features than I can think of with Viatalk.

| I have had Viatalk since 2006 with not many problems. In 2007 I started to notice monthly fees even though I paid for the entire year upfront to get another free year. I called emailed viatalk and they told me one was a 911 fee and the other was some recovery fee. I asked them to take it off and they wouldn’t. They should have told me about these fees earlier. What a joke. I guess they have to make money other ways because their service is so darn cheap. I would still say they are a better deal then most other voip services though. |

| For quite some time now, I've had phone service that works... Very few down times. In fact, the most recent outage that I was aware of was a result of two thing; I switched ISP to AT&T, and they don't play well with two lines, and I bought a faulty router.
VT has become a solid performer for me, and I'm finding myself quite sad that my contract is expiring. Given the current economy, it behooves me to search out the best deal on VoIP, and VT just isn't the best deal now. If they get smart and lower their fees in the next two weeks, I'll happily keep my service with them. Otherwise, I fear, it'll be time to start over with a new company.
Bottom line for this review: If you really want a high-quality VoIP provider with decent customer service and an expansive list of features that are sure to tickle your fancy in some way or another... Then ViaTalk is a perfect fit. A solid, dependable phone company that has exceeded my expectations for most of three years. |

| I spent a year with vonage and a month with Sunrocket( I got out before the bottom fell out) before I found ViaTalk. After 4 months of use, I am totally satisfied. I did have a few minor hiccups at the beginning, due to a bad adapter. After fixing that, all systems are go!. |

| I've been using the ViaTalk service for about 10 months, and I'm quite satisfied with it. At first I thought I'd made a mistake in choosing ViaTalk, because of the poor voice quality (echoes and voice delays), but that improved after about a week. So, the bottom line is that for less than $20 a month, I have a full-featured, high-quality phone service. Can’t complain about that!!! |

| Not perfect but here is why I still rate it a 5 of 5.
My past companies have always paid for 2 phone lines for me – until now. I claimed to use my home number as a fax, so that I never had paid anything. I have been researching for a year or so, to save the company money as they are trying to slash costs like the rest, and hell I hope that we save lots…. My only problem is my need to sometimes to modem into another modem and no one except roadrunner seems to offer that unusual feature. I ended up buying a specialized program for my cell and now using that, but it is cumbersome.
Here is the quantifying factor – it is sometimes not plug and play and takes more maintenance then an expensive landline. For example my wife loves it, but would return it if she had to call support a few times and tweak things herself, she also would be in tremendous debt if not for me.
My new unit arrived DOA, the next one was fine and while testing it for a month, I did lose 1 line, I needed to call tech support and they stepped me right through. Since then I noticed that call block *67 did not work every time, they then fixed it. So far I have been using it for over 2 months trouble free. The quality is very good, I did have to hand up on 2 different calls and called back – and the connection was great. Surprisingly we tested it, having 2 teens at home who seem to always be downloading something, we used both lines, had 3 different computers downloading very large files, during peak times and have NEVER had a problem. I though for sure that our bandwidth would suffer.
Now the clincher. My bills averaged $130 per month after taxes, fees …. I waited for their $200 special for 2 lines for 2 years. Savings of over $2,800 - EASY choice. Even with the $200 you end up paying only $240. I especially hate overpaying on utilities where the politicians get a piece of the action, plus Comcast and Verizon contribute huge amounts of cash everywhere to remain a monopoly. The system is so corrupt and I would next love to replace Comcast and peco electric – someday….
I have read negative reviews on Via-Talks support but they have been great, and I have used them a few times. EVERY time I had a live person who speaks great English, unlike many others. Go Via-Talk !!!!!

| Signed up for viatalk because of the free year and price. I had voip through another company a while back and didn’t like it. I thought I’d give viatalk a try. FINALLY a keeper! I haven’t had any problems. I understand what people are saying about the bad customer service. I had to call a while ago because of a billing question and was on hold FOREVER. The phone works great though. |

| As a newbie to VOIP, I signed up on Monday, 9/19/06, at 3:30 pm Eastern US time for a one month plan to compare the reliability and quality of this service side-by-side with my Verizon POTS phone. The favorable reviews here, combined with forum participation by ViaTalk’s CEO and a tech support member, were the reasons for my choice in VOIP providers.
My credit card was billed the following day, Tuesday, about 5:00 pm, or about 26 hours after signing up. Within a half an hour of being charged for the service, I received a second email with my new ViaTalk phone number and temporary password to access my account on the web site. When I accessed the website to see my order status, my equipment was shown as shipped and a tracking number provided.
I then signed into the ViaTalk control panel on their website and spent about an hour acquainting myself with all of the basic and advanced phone features available. ViaTalk has an extensive group of features that offer incredible control over one’s phone service.
The welcome package with the PAP2 adapter took three days from the time I was billed to arrive at my house. Installation of the PAP2 was a breeze and I was up with a dial tone mere seconds after removing the PAP2 device from the box and connecting it to my phone and existing router (Note: save the PAP2 box and all included instructions, just in case you need to return it to ViaTalk). I then placed a couple of calls to friends and family and noted a few issues with call quality. Intermittent audio and echoing plagued my calls, despite using Verizon FiOS and their plentiful 5 Mbps upload bandwidth as my ISP.
I called tech support, waited only a minute in the queue, and received excellent technical support. ViaTalk support made a quick change to the PAP2 so that it would use a different port, and also sent me an email with instructions on how to move the PAP2 into the router’s DMZ. After the port change and the modification to move the PAP2 into my router’s DMZ, call quality improved dramatically.
After using the service for one month, I decided that reliability and call quality were good enough (not perfect, however) to take the plunge by requesting the porting of my existing Verizon POTS phone number. Porting my phone number from Verizon to VT (all handled by VT) took 10 calendar days from the time I faxed my request to ViaTalk until the day I received an email announcing its completion. There was a three hour period during the day my number was ported where inbound callers received a “This number has been disconnected” message, but other than that the porting was painless.
At that point I also took advantage of a one year deal that ViaTalk started during that week, which effectively lowered my monthly bill to about $11.70/month (this included the one month I paid to test the service, the installation and setup fees, and the one year deal). My Verizon POTS service was about $60/month for unlimited calls in the US and Canada, but only included the caller ID and call waiting features.
With a bit over one month of call history now (about 2500 minutes), I have experienced approximately 97% service reliability. Problems occur in the order of one out of every 30 calls or so and range from major issues like no outbound audio or calls that don’t complete, to minor issues like occasional echo on either side of the call.
At this point I am happy with my service. My greatest satisfaction comes from having complete control over my phone calls, thanks to ViaTalk’s extensive list of features and web-based control panel. The "Do Not Disturb" feature combined with a White List (phone numbers I allow through the DND) allows me to turn off my phone (send calls to voicemail) in the evening and back on the next morning, meaning very limited interruptions during dinner and evening prime time. |

When ViaTalk works, it works well and ahs nice features. When it doesn't work (happens frequently), you are on your won as getting through to support is very difficult and very time consuming (hours, not minutes). The $199 advertised price is a crock. ViaTalk adds so many fees and surcharges (nine this month) that you cannot figure them out. Moreover, the taxes and fees change each month. In addition, they charges $24.95 FUSF (???) "annual" federal tax, but then repeat a monthly FUSF component. Total is more that double the $199. Go somewhere else - ViaTalk's purported bargain is a hoax; the true cost with all fees is double that. They allege that they have no control over the fees, surcharges, taxes, and two monthly E911 charges, but none of their competitors has even 1/3 as many, and ViaTalk provides no clarity in its invoicing or ability to get a rationale answer after waiting foreover for "customer service" (something ViaTalk would not recognize if it bit them).
